A spontaneous but very important project – and a great example of what’s possible when everyone works together!
Two days ago, we were invited by Mr. Gharib (Government) to a meeting at the Rixos and Radamis Hotel, where an important event was scheduled. The hotel requested help with 15–20 stray dogs on the premises.
To prevent the dogs from being caught and abandoned elsewhere, The Path to Humanity took full responsibility – with support from the hotel and the government.
After searching for a safe space, we found empty horse stables nearby. Thanks to Mr. Gabr, who immediately gave us permission to use them and offered his continued support.
On day one, we couldn’t locate the dogs. But the next morning – in 37°C heat – we worked all day. Without time to call our catcher from Cairo, the hotel’s General Manager Mr. Gurhan Yuksel sent two staff members to help.
Together with Joana, our incredible volunteer, and Mr. Mohamed Gharib, we managed to catch 7 dogs: 2 puppies, 1 already vaccinated and neutered dog, and 4 without tags.
All except one were taken to the cool horse stables. One dog went directly to the clinic.
The puppies will soon be returned to their mother, the neutered dog released, and the other 3 will be vaccinated and neutered.
All 7 dogs are now back with their pack.
Thank you to Fabio for the amazing photos – so glad you’re back with us, just like in the Sea Shepherd days.
4 dogs were vaccinated and neutered.
