With the government and authorities of South Sinai and Sharm El Sheikh
25.09.2024 - Ministry of Agriculture General Authority for Veterinary Services Conference - El Tor
The Path to Humanity was invited today to the rabies awareness conference. The conference was deliberately held on September 25, 2024, to honor Louis Pasteur on the anniversary of his death.
The conference took place in El Tor, the capital of South Sinai. Our CEO, Yasmine Hémès, was invited by Dr. Rehab, a government representative from the South Sinai Veterinary Chamber.
Other government representatives from the medical and veterinary chambers, as well as the mayor of South Sinai, were also invited guests.
Although Egypt has very few cases of rabies, the discussion focused on the dangers, treatment, and protection against rabies.
Yasmine: “It was a great honor for us as The Path to Humanity to participate in this conference and present our organization and its goals, especially since we automatically vaccinate the animals against rabies with every spay/neuter.
Dr. Albert Gabra, one of the best veterinarians in Sharm El Sheikh, and a friend I deeply appreciate, offered to take me in his car. El Tor, the capital of South Sinai, is about 100 km away from Sharm El Sheikh.
We were warmly welcomed. The conference was, of course, conducted in Arabic. But Dr. Albert was kind enough to translate much for me into English and later translated my speech into Arabic.
When the conference was over, Dr. Albert and I had the opportunity to have a private conversation with Dr. Rehab. She is such a lovely person, and we took an instant liking to each other. She herself offered to participate in one of our upcoming major campaigns. In the future, we will work more closely together. This day couldn't have gone better.”
Here are the key points from our presentation:
Now a few words about the organization “The Path to Humanity,” and you will see how closely our actions are connected to today’s topic of “rabies.”
As a legal organization established under Luxembourg law in September 2023, we work in both animal and environmental protection.
Since then, we have been able to spay/neuter and vaccinate 183 dogs and 40 cats. With every spay/neuter, the vaccination against rabies is also administered automatically.
Our 4th Clean Up will take place on October 3rd. So far, we have been able to collect about 400 kg of waste and hundreds of fishing lines from the Red Sea, with the support of Ras Mohamed National Park, CDWS, SSI, and around 30 volunteers participating in the clean-ups. According to a WWF study, there are already 86 million tons of waste on the seabed, the largest garbage dump in the world.
But back to the topic of stray animals…
Our activities in Sharm El Sheikh in this regard are:
*Large-scale spay/neuter and vaccination projects (50 dogs or cats per project). We work in regions. In Nabaq, nearly all dogs have been spayed/neutered. Currently, we are operating in Ruwaysat, where we have already spayed/neutered and vaccinated 100 dogs. We still have some work to do in Ruwaysat, as unfortunately, the dogs that cause disturbances in other areas are being deported to Ruwaysat.
*The second activity is creating feeding and drinking stations for dogs and cats throughout Sharm El Sheikh. These feeding stations are meant to be self-sustaining. We have put up a trial sign in Naama Bay (for cats), and the people living there—and even tourists—are feeding the animals. The dogs and cats no longer have to rummage through garbage to find food. Tourists love the image of the “good treatment” of the animals, and ultimately, the torn plastic bags searching for food will not end up in our seas. With this project, we achieve three goals at once:
1. The animals themselves
2. Tourism
3. Environment
As you have heard, with every spay/neuter, the animal is vaccinated against rabies.
Let us work together to create a livable place for the animals and, at the same time, make Sharm El Sheikh, as Dr. Albert beautifully put it, a stress-free place.
07.06.2024 - Stop the killing of innocent animals!
THE KILLING of street dogs and cats IS FORBIDDEN and will be PROSECUTED.
Yesterday, as scheduled, we met in the residential area of Maraqia in Nabq, where over a week ago, six dogs were poisoned and left in the garbage.
With me were Dr. Mohamed Gharib (Government), Marco Licata, Joanne and her husband Tamer Kawash, as well as another resident, Paul.
We were very kindly admitted into the compound.
After Dr. Mohamed spoke with the General Manager Nabil, it became clear that we were not allowed to leave our informational flyers under the residents' doors. However, at the security point, which every resident must pass before entering the residential area, i.e., to their apartment, a flyer would be handed to each person.
Despite my doubts about whether the flyers would actually be distributed, Tamer arranged a direct meeting with the manager, Mr. Aid Mohamed. This also gave us a chance to take a look at the entire facility.
We were also warmly welcomed here. Mr. Aid Mohamed, himself an animal lover, promised to personally speak with the residents and clearly explain that we will now monitor and observe their area more closely. He told us that it is only a handful of people who speak out against the strays.
It's always the same story.... Children and adults throw stones at the dogs to drive them away and then wonder why the dogs start to defend themselves.
If insight doesn't work and our explanations fall on deaf ears, then the law must prevent these people from their horrific actions.
Once again, we have created a promising project here. I will stay in contact with Mr. Aid Mohamed, who gave me his phone number and promised to be a contact person for any concerns.
Joanne and her husband Tamer got to know the organization a few months ago. They host around 100 cats and 3 dogs - we supported them once with food. (Unfortunately, because our donations mainly go towards neutering). Their dedication is incredible. The couple, who do not live in wealth, rented a flat specifically for the cats, had each animal neutered and vaccinated at their own expense, and provide the food. The couple showed us their apartments and told us that they want to paint the walls like a jungle so that the animals feel even more comfortable. Very impressive.
The same goes for Marco Licata, with whom I have had several conversations. He also has his own page on Facebook where he boldly points out the mistreatment of animals here in Sharm. He not only offers solutions but also provides significant support at all times from his private income.
This shows the huge gap between animal protectors and animal haters.
It is necessary to close this gap, as mentioned, through understanding or punishment.
As an organization, we say that we will not give up until every last person in Sharm El Sheikh appeals to their dignity and faith and offers food instead of poison to the animals.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this action. Once again, a step in the right direction.
07.06.2024 - Stop the killing of innocent animals!
It is time to stand up for those who have no voice!

"Maraqia Resort - Napq"
Time: 5:00 PM
Last week, between the residential units of Porto Sharm and Maraqia in Napq, the law was violated once again. Six innocent dogs were poisoned and left lying like trash.
We will distribute these flyers to the approximately 400 residents of both residential units so that everyone knows that such actions are punishable by law.
Our Vet-Chamber Government will be with us on site.
01.06.2024 - Marché Tournesol
A special thank you to Patrice BAMBERG.
She is currently at the "Marché Tournesol" at the "Jeckelshaff," an event organized by "déi Gréng Péiteng," and she is giving away her items in exchange for donations to us, "The Path to Humanity."
Thank you for this idea, dear Patrice, and for your wonderful effort.

24.05.2024 - Campaign “Water for the Street Animals”
On May 24, several animal activists responded to a very short-notice call to provide water to street animals in Sharm. The temperatures here had already risen to 42 degrees Celsius.
The street animals are called "Baladis" here, which means native and locally residing.
How easy is it to help the animals? Water from the tap, which humans here do not drink, is accustomed to by the street animals. Just fill a bowl and place it outside your door or on the street. Minimal effort but a lot of help.
Equipped with water and containers, we set off. John Harby, a active animal activist, took us on his route, which he drives as often as possible to support five packs with his private funds, both with food and water.
Locations visited:
- Old market, behind clock square
- Old gate Sharm el-Sheikh
- New gate Sharm el-Sheikh
- Hay el Nour, staff housing
- Hay el Nour Association land
It was heartwarming to see the animals recognize John and eagerly await him.
Four of the packs have puppies, 16 in total. This will be our next project. We will vaccinate the puppies, so after a few months, we only need to neuter them.
We spoke with the people who followed our campaign and those who live or work where the packs are located, asking them to at least provide water for the animals.
Also participating were:
- Dr. Mohamed Gharib from the government, which delighted us
- Sibylle, a very active animal activist who devotes herself daily to street animals
- Fabio, who documents everything for us
- Joana, our volunteer and active participant with the street animals
- Yasmine our CEO
As always, pictures speak louder than words – thank you, Fabio!

Safety Stop - Café-Restaurant / Sharm El Sheikh
Every Thursday, a diving party with a barbecue evening takes place at the Safety Stop - Cafe & Restaurant - in Sharm El Sheikh.
It is very commendable and noteworthy that the food waste is not simply thrown away, but instead benefits the stray dogs.
So, if you are ever in Sharm and/or in the mood for some really delicious food, personally tested 🙂, head over to the Safety Stop.
Thanks for the collaboration.
On May 16, 2024
Meeting with Dr. Mohamed Gharib, Director of the Veterinary Chamber in Sharm El Sheikh, and Dr. Albert, a veterinarian who also served as a translator for the meeting.
Thank you in advance, Dr. Mohamed and Dr. Albert, for the positive meeting.
I could now simply post the last sentence of our conversation - which was - we agree with everything...
Vaccination - sterilization - feeding stations
The conversation began with me explaining to the gentlemen that our organization is mainly focused on vaccinations, sterilizations for males and females, and feeding of street animals, region by region.
Hotels and residential compounds
We want to target the hotels and compounds... Many of them have stray animals because there is food available, but unfortunately, it's only food from their waste.
The waste must go!! We vaccinate and sterilize and want to set up feeding stations, away from the hotels, which will then be fed by them with their food waste. For this, they receive a label - with "we help the street animals in Sharm El Sheikh". Which will certainly be well received by tourists.
This is where the government's support begins - hotels will be officially requested to work with us and dispose of the waste accessible to animals directly. Additionally, permission is needed for hotels to provide their food waste, which is currently prohibited.
Feeding stations around Sharm El Sheikh
We have signs for feeding stations, both for cats and dogs. And this proves to be a good idea. People living here fill bowls with food and water without being asked. Again, a circle that closes by itself. However, the police have intervened before and prohibited us from putting up these signs. Here, too, we need an official permit, which will be deposited with the police.
Catcher
We need a regional catcher - we were also in full agreement on this.
Sharm El Sheikh, leader in animal and environmental protection
Dogs and cats from other cities in Egypt are only allowed to enter Sharm if they have a certificate from a veterinarian confirming they are vaccinated and sterilized.
Animal shelters
We need 2 shelters for the animals because of the remote locations in Sharm El Sheikh. These shelters would provide a place for dogs and cats to stay and recover after sterilizations, freeing up more space in clinics and veterinary practices. They would also serve as a shelter for aggressive dogs that endanger the rest of their pack. Here, too, we need the government's help to provide us with two such buildings.
Poisoning
It was once again confirmed that this is against Egyptian law and will result in prosecution.
Local solutions
As mentioned before, we will not be sending any animals to Europe. Europe is already flooded with animals from various countries. We are addressing the problem locally.
We have agreed that I will be invited to the next meeting, in a few days, with Director Rehab from the Veterinary Chamber of Sinai, to present our work that we want to do in Sharm El Sheikh and to obtain the necessary approvals from the authorities.
If actions now follow, we can achieve something unprecedented in Egypt - and this to the benefit of people, stray animals, the environment, and tourism.
Let's do it!

March 27, 2024 - Street Speed Monitoring
Good day, Mr. Ahmed, City Council of Napq.
These 2 roundabouts are very dangerous, not only because stray dogs, which have already been neutered by us, are constantly being run over there, but also school children cross the road here to reach their school bus.
To avoid the situation we had in Rivera, where a child was run over, we kindly ask you to consider curbing speeding through speed monitoring. You would only need to set up radars or speed bumps at 2 locations.
Please take a look at the map with the green markings, as well as the photos, which are also marked. If you have time, you could also arrange a meeting point with Joana, our staff member whom you already know, early in the morning or in the evening to inspect the locations themselves.
Best regards and thank you.
We are waiting for a response.
March 2024
Two additional requests have been submitted to the authorities:
- Permission to hang up our signs for the feeding stations. Animals have something to eat. And this is already a self-sustaining action for the cats. People in the area fill the feeding stations with food and water. This keeps the stray animals away from the garbage piles where they search for food, and it brings them together so we can capture, vaccinate, and neuter them.
- Permission to use a "Blow-Pipe" and this across all of Sharm El Sheikh. Street dogs need to be captured. This is not easy as they are often shy of humans. Therefore, to vaccinate and neuter them, we need someone local who can anesthetize the animals. The Path to Humanity will only grant permission to individuals who have professional knowledge of using the blow-pipe and only to those who anesthetize our dogs.
We are still waiting for a response.
March 19, 2024 - Brochure for Cooperation
Our brochure in English and Arabic has been sent to both the City Council of Sinai (Mr. Mohamed) and the City Council of Napq (Mr. Ahmed), as well as to the Director of the Veterinary Chamber of Sharm El Sheikh (Mr. Mohamed Gharib).
We are still waiting for a response.
In our view, this would be a first fundamental step towards cooperation.
A big thank you to Montasser Nasralla (Monty) for translating into Arabic.
February 29, 2024 - Creative Badawia Resort in Sharm El Sheikh
AT SOME POINT, IT MUST STOP!!!!!
We watched for a long time, too long, as this hotel poisoned the pack of dogs in front of the hotel.
THEN, for the 5th time, and no one did anything.
After the first poisoning incident in January, we called and wrote to the manager. We offered to help find a solution. Feeding the animals far away so they wouldn't come so close to his hotel, but he would have to remove his exposed garbage (a feeding ground for the animals). Nothing happened, not even a response - the poisoning continued.
Then we wrote to Vice President Dr. Inas and Mr. Mohamed, City Council of Sinai. But here, too, we initially encountered deaf ears.
Here are the FACTS:
January 20 - 1st poisoning - 2 dogs (Cassady dead)
January 22 - 2nd poisoning - 5 dogs all survived, two of them had to stay overnight at Dr. Albert's and barely made it. (Murmel, Smiler, Sunny, Ears, Ernie)
February 15 - 3rd poisoning - 3 dogs again Smiler, the mother of the puppies, and Amber survived (Hugo dead)
February 20 - 4th poisoning - 2 dogs, Sunny survived (Amber dead)
February 29 - 5th poisoning - 1 dog survived.
It's a disgrace - what is done to animals - and everyone is silent!!!!!! We also informed the City Council of Sinai, Mr. Mohamed, and called for a boycott by travel agencies.
Perhaps everything takes a moment longer in Egypt than we are used to. But Mr. Mohamed intervened and informed the Director of the Medical Association of Sharm El Sheikh, Mr. Mohamed Gharib. Although we have not yet had the pleasure of directly exchanging views with the Director, a reaction was made.
A letter from Director Gharib was presented to the manager of the hotel complex, informing him that if even a single dog were poisoned again, he could expect an OFFICIAL CHARGE BEFORE COURT. He had to sign the letter.
SINCE THEN, THERE HAS BEEN PEACE!
The few dogs that are left can now live their lives without danger. This with the support of those who continue to lovingly care for the animals and give them not only cuddles but also food.
The dogs were poisoned 5 times - 4 died
Manager officially warned by the authorities
January 29, 2024 - Sierra "Residential Complex in Napq"
Unfortunately, on the night of January 27th to 28th, 2024, dogs were poisoned in this residential complex. A "troublesome" pack consisting of over 30 dogs repeatedly gained access to the residential complex, searching for food in its garbage piles. Neurotoxin was added to the trash.
Nine dogs died, and three others had to spend five days in the animal clinic, including two puppies.
Although it is now illegal in Egypt to poison innocent stray animals, it still happens.
On the same day, we reached out to Mr. Mohamed, the City Council of South Sinai, and the manager of the local vice president, Dr. Inas, as well as the City Council of Napq, Mr. Ahmed.
A meeting was scheduled for the same day between Mr. Ahmed, the manager of the Sierra complex, Mr. Salah, and The Path to Humanity, represented by Joana.
A big thank you at this point to Mr. Ahmed, the Mayor of Napq, who gave Sierra a week to clean up the garbage very strictly.
Furthermore, a deal was made between the residential complex, represented by their manager, Salah, and us.
On their part: Dispose of the garbage, and all holes in the walls surrounding the residential complex, fence, and gate must be repaired so that the dogs cannot enter the complex anymore.
On our part: As The Path to Humanity, we offered to neuter and vaccinate the remaining 25 dogs and set up a feeding station outside the residential complex.
Sierra, under the leadership of their manager, Salah, adhered to the deal. The garbage was gone within a week. And now, all the holes around the complex have been patched up.
We vaccinated and neutered the 25 dogs (see Project 8), and a feeding station outside the complex has been set up.
Solving problems without taking lives and creating a world where humans and animals can coexist. We lead by example.
9 dogs were poisoned
Sierra makes an effort and keeps its word
We too, 25 dogs were captured, neutered, and vaccinated - See Project 8

To read...
The attitude of the Sierra housing complex under the management of Salah is still commendable.
Once again, garbage had accumulated in the compound (a feeding ground for the stray dogs that no one in the housing complex wants). After consulting with Salah, he informed us that the trucks that were supposed to collect the garbage hadn't come for two consecutive days. The garbage problem in Egypt is an ongoing issue, even though efforts are being made, and there has been more progress in recent years than before.
But the manager leads by example. He has reduced the number of garbage dumping sites by two again.
Thank you for this good cooperation, Salah.
