24.05.2024 – Campaign “Water for the Street Animals”

On May 24, several animal activists responded to a very short-notice call to provide water to street animals in Sharm. The temperatures here had already risen to 42 degrees Celsius.

The street animals are called “Baladis” here, which means native and locally residing.

How easy is it to help the animals? Water from the tap, which humans here do not drink, is accustomed to by the street animals. Just fill a bowl and place it outside your door or on the street. Minimal effort but a lot of help.

Equipped with water and containers, we set off. John Harby, a active animal activist, took us on his route, which he drives as often as possible to support five packs with his private funds, both with food and water.

Locations visited:
– Old market, behind clock square
– Old gate Sharm el-Sheikh
– New gate Sharm el-Sheikh
– Hay el Nour, staff housing
– Hay el Nour Association land

It was heartwarming to see the animals recognize John and eagerly await him.
Four of the packs have puppies, 16 in total. This will be our next project. We will vaccinate the puppies, so after a few months, we only need to neuter them.

We spoke with the people who followed our campaign and those who live or work where the packs are located, asking them to at least provide water for the animals.

Also participating were:
– Dr. Mohamed Gharib from the government, which delighted us
– Sibylle, a very active animal activist who devotes herself daily to street animals
– Fabio, who documents everything for us
– Joana, our volunteer and active participant with the street animals
– Yasmine our CEO

As always, pictures speak louder than words – thank you, Fabio!
