Project 17 – Shy / Parrotel – Lagoon Area

We know Shy from Project 2, based at the Parrotel hotel in the Lagoon area of Nabq.
The dogs there grew deeply attached to their caretaker – our beloved Joana – and started visiting her regularly, often relaxing comfortably in her garden.

After a few days of getting to know him better, Joana noticed strong convulsions in Shy. They were so severe that she had no choice but to take him to the veterinary clinic.

Since April 12, Shy has been under observation. He started eating again after two days and initially showed signs of improvement, suggesting poisoning.
To our knowledge, it wasn’t intentional – the local community is kind to the animals. It’s possible he ingested rat poison or something else toxic.

Sadly, Shy’s condition worsened again – the seizures intensified, and he began fighting violently in distress.

After further blood tests and two more days in the clinic, it became clear that Shy was suffering greatly. In the end, we had to make the painful decision to end his suffering.

R.I.P. Shy – we will never forget you.

We would also like to support Joana, who has been covering the treatment costs on her own.
Three other dogs from the same group appear weak and sick, though not showing seizures.

Is it rat poison? Contaminated irrigation water? The plastic being burned nearby?

Until we know more, all dogs in this area remain at risk.
